One of the best parts of Halloween is all the ghost stories that we like to hear. The ghost has been around for thousands of years and there is not a better time to tell a great Ghost story than Halloween.
If you are going to tell ghost stories at Halloween then you want to make sure that you tell scary stories that will keep the listeners hiding under there beds. It is important to know the components that make up a good Halloween ghost story.
You first want to set the atmosphere so that the listener will get out of his or her comfort zone and be transported into the scary story. To do this you want to use all the human senses such as sight, touch, sound, and smell and it is a good idea to show with your descriptive words the place you want to take them. The atmosphere of the story is the most important thing.
When you are creating the setting for the story you can use the traditional graveyard or haunted house but there are many great story tellers that like to use an abandoned house in the woods or a scary dock by the seaside.
Next you want to play off the listeners emotion because this is the best way to really scare them. You want to slowly pull them into the story until they are ready for the scary parts. You have to have them interested from the beginning so that when you scare them it is believable.
Finally it is important to have a plot to the story. The person that is listening to the story wants a reason to continue so you need to create one section leading into the next so that they build with anticipation.
Most importantly is to have fund with the story that you are telling and be original. You do not want to have a group of people listening to the story and then half of them realize they have heard this one before.
